Overview
Our Climate Action Program is an approach to mitigating climate change based in the belief that equitable climate action must ensure that communities who bear the least responsibility for climate change do not suffer disproportionately from its impacts as a result of historical injustice and lack of investment. We engage under-resourced communities to explore and address climate change-related impacts with support from local experts in climate mitigation and community resilience.
Our equitable climate action work is an opportunity to listen to, learn from and include the voices, passion and wisdom of people in our community who have been left out of the climate conversation. This work includes developing targeted communication, education, and outreach strategies based on input from priority populations.
We believe that advocating for policy changes is crucial for driving effective community improvements. Through an advocacy framework, we combine education, public awareness campaigns, and active participation in public discussions focused on topics like air quality, composting, clean energy, wildfires, natural disasters, and emergency preparedness. We remain committed to working in partnership with public and private organizations so that families, adults, and seniors in our community can find support. If you are interested in volunteering in the area of equitable climate action, please contact us.
Climate change, natural disasters, and resilience
Climate change is a consequence of our human activities and greenhouse emissions in the atmosphere. Natural disasters related to climate change include intense droughts, water shortages, severe fires, rising sea levels, flooding, melting polar ice, catastrophic storms, and declining biodiversity. We need to be resilient and work together with businesses, communities, and governments for a sustainable lifestyle.
“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.” –Albert Einstein
