This family fled a situation of violence, and quickly relocated to a one-bedroom apartment in San Rafael, with only two mattresses. Thankfully, they linked up with NMCS, through our Amigos program.

Our case manager helped them move into a three-bedroom apartment in Novato by helping with a needed rental down payment. Thanks to our community partner Welcoming Home, their new apartment was furnished with needed items – beds for all with bedding, lamps, and a dining table. There were tears in their eyes and we lost count of how many times they said “Thank You.” Everyone was so happy to have a real dining room where they could be together comfortably.

Then the pandemic came…once more this resilient family overcame the challenge of extreme hardship. Unexpected unemployment hit them hard, but NMCS made sure they could stay in their home by providing 3 emergency rental assistance payments. They also accessed our weekly food pantry. Thankfully, this family is back to work and on firmer ground. The two young boys are looking forward to seeing Santa and participating in NMCS’ annual Holiday Share and Toy Drive this December.
